Dell OptiPlex GX260 Windows 7 Drivers

Dell only released Windows XP drivers for this model, so after installing Windows 7 the main problem with the drivers is the Audio and Graphic/Video. The solution for this problem is to use Windows Vista Drivers for the audio (Realtek AC97) and Windows XP drivers for the Graphic.

Audio Drivers
The Original Drivers for this model is ADI 198x, but it won't install using windows xp drivers in compatibility mode. So, after several research and test, this drivers worked.

Synaptic Touchpad Driver for Windows 8/8.1

Official Release by Synaptic
Synaptics released new drivers version (17.0.19) which compatible with Windows 8/7/XP/ and Windows Vista. This driver package also support both 32-bit and 64-bit. Before we proceed with the installation ,Synaptic does ask users to check from the manufacturer website first, example if you have a HP notebook, you can check if HP provide Windows 8 drivers for your synaptic touchpad. Ssynaptic released generic drivers which may result in the loss of OEM-costumized Synaptic Pointing device functionality. So, it is strongly recommend to set a restore point which is a quick way to rollback to the previous driver you already have.

Windows 8.1/8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit : Version 17.0.19  Download (118MB)

Released By Notebook Manufacturer:

Acer : Download
Hewlett Packard (HP/Compaq) : Download
Lenovo : Download
Sony (Vaio) : Download

Notes!:
Synaptic Pointing device or Synaptic Touchpad available on most laptop. Even some laptop uses ALPS Touchpad but the numbers of notebook that uses ALPS is lower than synaptic. There are also several other synaptic Touchpad device such as Elantech. It is important to make sure you have the synaptic touchpad not ALPS or other. This is because some models do have variant, means if you own a Acer 4623 (example), you may see Acer provide 2 downloads for ALPS ans Synaptic touchpad. So we can say Acer 4623 Variant 1 uses Synaptic and the other variant uses ALPS.

HP Compaq nx9030 Windows 7/XP Drivers

HP only released windows xp drivers for this model. If you plan to upgrade into Windows 7, you will see certain drivers not installed since most hardware (from Intel) no longer support Windows 7. So here  I posted the drivers you will need for Windows 7. For windows xp, there are some drivers not listed on HP download site, normally if a driver not listed mean it is automatic or not required, but I doubt that so I added drivers for graphic and chipset (the driver for graphic and chipset for Windows xp is available on HP database but it just not listed for nx9030.) If you want to see the driver released from HP, just go to the Hp support and select - support - drivers - Laptops - HP compaq Notebook PC - HP 9000 and you will see nx9030 is on the list.  The original drivers released is similar from what I listed here, only the graphic and chipset is missing form the download list.

2. Graphic driver for windows 7 Requires several steps to install, but you can try manual installation (the same method to install audio) using your original windows XP drivers.
3. If you don't use your Fax modem, you can skip the modem installation.

How to Identify Webcam Using PID Code

The PID Code is a Line of code which we use to identify our webcam device. Each webcam has it own unique PID code, and by using this code we can determine which drivers we need to install.

How to Check Webcam PID Code:
1. Fist open device manager.
2. Now look for "webcam device", it is normally located under the imaging device.  The name may varies depend on your webcam and model.

The picture above shows HP webcam listed, and there are no yellow mark on it means the drivers already installed. If the driver not yet installed normally you will see a yellow mark and sometimes it listed other device like picture below:

3. Right click on it and select properties. Then, select details and on the drop down menu select Hardware ID's.

4. Look at the picture above, the whole Line is the Hardware ID, the PID code is part of the Hardware ID. It start from PID and ended before & sign. From the picture above:

Hardware ID : USB\VID_064E&PID_A1116&REV_0313&MI_00
PID CODE: PID_A1116

How To Use PID code to identify/Download Drivers for The Webcam

There 2 ways you can identify your webcam device and download the proper drivers.

1. By downloading from the manufacture download site.

Example you have an Asus A42JC, so we go to the download site and we will see lots of webcam driver listed, and we need to select one base on the PID code that matches the PID code displayed on the download site.

2. If you manufacturer does not list out the hardware ID or PID code for your webcam, we just need to Google the hardware ID to find out the right webcam driver. Example if you have an Acer 1810T and on the download site there are 3 drivers listed:

So to choose the right driver first we must obtain the PID code.

If Hardware ID is:
USB\VID_04F2&PID_B175&REV_1357&MI_00

So the PID Code is : PID_B175

Now if we Google the PID code the result would be:

From the search result the right webcam driver is chicony. If you have problem do let me know.

Intel 82830M Graphics Drivers Installation For Windows 7

There is no driver for Windows 7 released by Intel or any other 3rd party website. So, in this post I will show how to install Intel(R) 82830M driver in Windows 7.

Before start:
- If you already have any Intel Graphic extreme system tray installed,  uninstall it first.
- If you success install the driver using the method I describe below, but the driver uninstall itself after restart, disable your internet connection during the whole installation process.
- the driver in this tutorial is from Fujitsu, you are responsible to comply with the T&C if you are using this driver for other model. The best way is to download the driver released by Intel on any website that distribute the driver. Since the download link changes, I'm unable to provide one from Intel, I only have the link from Fujitsu and Nec Versa website.

1. Download Intel driver version 6.14.10.3741, you can Google it or use the driver below:

Intel 830M/845 Graphic Drivers
File Name :ST4110,ST4120,ST4121_VIDEO_INTEL_V6.14.10.3741_XP.exe
Version 6.14.10.3741
File Size : 5MB
Description: This driver design for Intel 82830M and 82845.
Download Link From Fujitsu:Download (exe)
Download Link From Nec Versa : Download (zip)

The driver already tested on one of the Dell Machine and worked

2. Extract the driver we downloaded earlier. For this tutorial I make folder in desktop and name it as Intel and extract the driver in that folder. If you use the driver from Fujitsu, you need Winrar software to extract the driver file. Remember the path of the extracted driver folder, we will need it later.

3. Open device manager by click start and type DEVMGMT.MSC and press enter.

2. Look for Video Controller Marked with yellow, right click on it and select update driver:

3. Select Browse my computer for Driver software.

4. Click Browse and Point to the driver folder we extracted earlier.

It is important to select the right folder so it will found the driver inf file.
Note that the driver inf  file (file that required for driver installation) is in Win2000 folder, so it is better to browse to that folder. In this example I extracted the driver file on a folder on desktop so the location will be: c:\User\YouComputerName\Desktop\Inte\ST4110,St4120.ST4121_VIDEO_INTEL_V6.14.10.3741-XP
(look at the picture below).

5. After clicking next, the installation will begin and will take few minutes to finish. Don't worry if it take too long, it is normal. After installation finish reboot your system. If it prompt to reboot, please do so.

6. After reboot, you wait until you see a pop up message "new hardware found" or "Installing device software" or similar, just click on it.

7. Wait until the round circle gone (installation finish). reboot once again. (Force reboot if windows prompt something)

8. Wait until  you see a pop-up like in step 6 and click on it.

9. Another installation will take place. Reboot once again util installation finish and reboot once again. (at first it will only show "Intel(R) 82830M Graphic Controller, but latr you will see it will install all driver component needed as you see in the picture below). One driver will not installed (see picture) but ignore it.

Now your graphic should be listed on device manager as Intel(R) 82830M Graphics Controller and this means you are successfully installed the graphic drivers.

Additional Notes:
1. What to do if the driver uninstall itself after reboot?
-Turn off Internet, try different driver version or try with your original windows XP Driver.

2. Is there any other method to install this driver, yes, there are different method availble for example you cn read it here:

Do let me know the results along with your notebook model, your feedback could help others.
