Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for Acer Aspire 1640
This model built for windows XP launched along with 2 other model which are acer aspire 1640z and acer aspire 1650. All windows 7 drivers here is base on the model specification and please let me know if there are any problems installing the drivers.

2. Audio : Acer didn't provide latest or compatible audio driver for this model on the support site but there are compatible driver on their database. Realtek also continue to provide latest update for this driver which you can download it from the realtek website: www.realtek.com
To download from Realtek site, navigate: Downloads - High Definition Audio Codecs (software) - Accept the terms and agreement - select the version for windows 7.

USB Drivers

INTRODUCTION:
Most USB devices drivers automatically installed after you plug in on you PC. Most of use call it "Plug and Play". For example if you plug a USB mouse into your USB port windows automatically searching and install the appropriate driver. You will see a dialog box like this:

But not all USB devices recognize by windows, you need to install the driver first before using it.


STEP HOW TO INSTALL USB DRIVERS.

1. First identify what is your device model number/type name. For example you are using Verizon broadband modem UM150.
2. Go to the official download page and download the correct driver that match your USB device model.
3. Install it and allow few minutes for windows to fully updates and identify all components for the USB.

Certain USB devices come with firmware CD and you just need to install it on your system.


USB DRIVERS FOR USB FLASH DRIVE AND EXTERNAL STORAGE

Windows already have the generic drivers for USB FLASH DRIVE and MEMORY CARD. Normally it is called "Mass Storage Device", by default all windows operating system have this driver in thier system, if not you can get it from Microsoft site here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318812

This apply for most external device such as:

WHAT IF THERE ARE NO DRIVERS OR FIRMWARE AVAILABLE.

1. Try to plug the USB device into other USB port.
2. If the problem persist, open device manager and expand the USB Root Hub

3. You will see unknown device or any device marked with yellow.
4. Right click on it and select Uninstall. Reboot your computer.
5. Open device manager again and right click on of the any USB root hub list and select scan for hardware change.

USB SUDDENLY STOP WORKING

1. Turn off your computer.
2. Deatch power chord or power supply.
3. Remove battery (for laptop)
4. Open your computer and plug the USB device.

Sometimes when the USB is too hot and too busy windows will stop the USB device to prevent from system instability. I already experience this with few device from HUAWEI which require me to unplug and replug every time it is not responsive. Later on i solved the problem buy put a small fan near the USB device to keep the temperature low.

ADI 1981B Windows 7 Drivers

ADI 1981B also know as Soundmax audio or also AC97 audio drivers. This device used mostly during windows XP era and start to slow down after vista was released. Later on after Windows 7 and Windows 8 arrival we can see that Realtek and IDT High Definition Audio conquer the audio device component in most laptops and desktop board

Windows 7 Drivers:
There are several ways to install ADI Soundmax drivers in windows 7.

1. Latest driver from Realtek (realtek AC'97 is compatible with Soundmax AC'97).
Go to www.realtek.com.tw .  Select Downloads - AC'97 Audio Codecs Software - Accept the terms and agreement and select Vista/Win7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file). Download the file, extract it and run setup to install.

2. Use your original windows XP and Windows Vista Drivers.

Windows Vista drivers for windows 7 : You just need to download your original windows vista drivers, set the compatibility for windows vita first before installing the drivers. To learn how to set the compatibility mode you can read here.

Windows XP driver : You need to install it manually using device manager. You can read the example form my post here where i wrote down details instruction to install it on HP DV4000 model.

3. The last is to mod the inf file, this is advance method but not too complicated. I write a details instruction on this method to install conexant audio and the method can be applied to install ADI audio. You can read it here.

Acer Aspire 4745G Windows 8 Driver

Either you are planning to install windows 8 or already have windows 8 on your system, you will need to install 2 drivers which is the graphic and the touchpad. If you have 2 VGA (switchable graphic) ATI (AMD) and Intel graphic,  don;t worry about the intel graphic because windows will automatically install the drivers and also available via windows updates.

Important: Do not install ATI (AMD) Driver using windows update, If you did, uninstall the updates first before proceed with the driver installation.

Driver Power State failure Windows 8

Either windows 8 or windows 8.1, some of you may experience this error (BSOD). There are different things that can cause this error. Some of you may try to change the power options but the problem persist. There are easier way to identify the culprit and what needs to be done to solve the problem.

1. Look at the dump file, example :

The error shows " iaStorA.sys" which refer to storage driver. For intel model, normally you will have intel matrix storage manager installed in your system. Uninstalling this driver will resolve the issue.

2. New Updates/Upgrades or Old Drivers:
If you updates you drivers or installed or driver version for your windows 8. This actions could be the factor. Try to uninstall the updates or try to use the latest driver available.

A well known issue is for nvidia users and you can solve this problem by using nvidia tools on their website: www.nvidia.com.

For HP/Compaq user, most of the time your wireless mouse and unifying receiver is the problem. You need to remove them to solve the problems.
